The NYC Public Advocate's seat, previously held by current Attorney General Letitia James, is up for a contested special election on February 26, 2019. The Public Advocate, who succeeds the Mayor should there be a vacancy, is a crucial watchdog position created by the city charter tasked with investigating and providing reports on the service delivery and administrative actions of New York City agencies.
